  • The purpose of this class is for all students to develop a deep, rich network of understandings related to the world around them
  • The objectives included in this class deal with history, geography, economics, and civics from a diverse, global perspective.
  • Units of study include Geography, Africa,  East  and South Asia and Latin America
Students engage in projects and activities that require them to apply social studies skills in real-world contexts.

  • South Kingstown Social Studies Curriculum
  • National  Social Studies Standards
  • Rhode Island Grade Span Expectations for Civics & Government and Historical Perspectives
  • Common Core Standards for English Language Arts & Literacy in History, Social Studies and Technical Subjects

GRADING: Grades will be based on the following:
Parents and students are strongly encouraged to use Parent Connet to moniter class grades.
*tests/quizzes                   *homework completion
*projects/assignments                   *class participation

  • For projects, students and teachers will use rubrics, criteria sheets, and checklists to guide and assess performance as compared to the standards.  Students may resubmit an improved project within timeframe set by teacher.
  • Retakes on tests/quizzes will be determined on an individual basis.
  • A parent/guardian signature will be required for any score below 70%.
  • Students will receive a stamp in their planner when homework is not completed.
  • Students are expected to come to class prepared to learn.  This includes having a pencil, homework, notebook, and a positive attitude.
  • Students are expected to respect me, themselves, and others.  The PBIS matrix is used to help guide student’s behavior.
  • Students are expected to participate in class discussions.
