Some things to be on the look out for when reading.....
- Similes- using the words "like" or "as" to compare two objects-
- Her eyes glistened like diamonds in the morning sun.

- Metaphors-comparing two objects without using the words "like" or "as" -
John was a bear in the morning before his first cup of coffee. Cindy was a mule. We couldn't get her to see our point of view.

- Personification- giving an inanimate object human characteristics
The stars danced playfully in the moonlit sky. The ocean danced in the moonlight.

- Onomatopoeia- words used to represent the sound they make- VROOOM, BAM or BUZZ!

- Vivid Verbs- verbs that show- you can see the action in your mind
Darted, dashed, sprinted, or lumbered instead of walked
