Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to the Broad Rock Middle School team we call the Sapphires. Because we attend Broad “Rock” Middle School, the teachers here have chosen team names that identify us with some of the world’s special “rocks”. We chose these names because we believe that like all precious gems and jewels, our children are beautiful and unique, and that they grow more and more valuable every day.

As Sapphire teachers, we meet regularly and work together to develop common policies, procedures and expectations that we hope will ease your student’s transition from elementary school to middle school. We have tried to create an environment in which each student can reach his/her potential as a successful learner.

Behavior
Please review the BRMS Code of Behavior found in the student planner.

RULES:
  • We respect the space and property of others
  •    We are considerate in language and actions
  •   We will not prevent the teacher from teaching or students from learning
PBIS:
Our school’s PBIS theme/focus is ROCKS:       Respectful - On task – Cooperative – Kind - Safe
  • Positive behavior is acknowledged with Golden Tickets and public recognition
  • Negative behavior results in a Discipline Referral which must be signed by a parent/guardian and may carry additional consequences
Homework
We feel that homework is an important part of your child’s education. One benefit is that it provides opportunities for students to review and practice the skills and content covered in school. Another benefit is that as students learn to organize their time and materials, they develop important study skills and learning behaviors that should become lifelong habits. Therefore, homework is figured into the students grades and is expected to be completed when it is due. At the discretion of the teacher, partial credit may be given for assignments that are one day late.
At the beginning of each class period, students are directed to record their homework in their planners. You may help your child by occasionally reviewing completed homework and referring to the assignment as it is written in the planner. This home-school partnership will assist Sapphire students in the development of important academic/life skills such as being responsible and accountable. The planner also serves as a convenient way to communicate with your child’s teachers. If you have questions or concerns, you might write a brief note in the planner and tell your child to bring it to the attention of the appropriate teacher in class the next day.
