Syllabus

SOCIAL STUDIES - This course is designed to correlate with South Kingstown social studies curriculum, the National Council for Social Studies (NCSS) Standards, the Common Core State Standards, and the Rhode Island Grade Span Expectations for Civics & Government and Historical Perspectives.  The curriculum addresses the understanding and development of geography, history, culture, civics and the economy of Asia, Africa and Latin America:

·       Identify connections among cultures
·       Examine key historic events
·       Demonstrate an understanding of people, places, and the environment
·       Investigate power, authority and government
·       Describe production, distribution and consumption of goods and services
·       Explore current events

Students will read actively and interpret a variety of texts, use analytical skills to interpret charts, graphs, tables, etc., and problem solve both individually and in group situations.  Students will be assessed using multiple formal and informal tools.
